FROM OUR DOORSTEP TO THE VERDON: SWIMMING & WATER ADVENTURES

Set in the heart of the Provençal countryside, Cotignac is surrounded by beautiful natural swimming spots, from calm river sections and shaded pools to small cascades and scenic walking paths. The Cassole cascade runs directly alongside the apartment, and the gentle sound of flowing water can be heard from the rooms and balconies. An ideal setting for warm summer days, whether for swimming, picnics, or simply enjoying the natural surroundings of Provence.

Just a short stroll from the village centre, the Cassole River offers a lovely natural setting right by Cotignac. Follow the footpath from the tourist office along the river, and you’ll reach:

  • Cascade du Gouffre – a charming waterfall of around 10 m, formed where the river drops over limestone. It’s a great place for scenic photos and nature walks; the stream and shaded riverbed are especially cool on hot days.

  • Natural pools and shallow basins located downstream of the falls are ideal for paddling and cooling off in the summer.

💡 Swimming near the main waterfall can be restricted or unofficial — always check local signage and conditions.

SILLANS-LA-CASCADE VILLAGE

One of the most iconic natural features in the area.

  • Cascade de Sillans is a stunning 42 m waterfall where the Bresque River plunges into a milky-blue pool in a beautiful forest setting.

  • There’s a well-marked trail from the village centre and viewpoints over the falls — visitors can often find deeper swimming spots in the river below the main cascade.

  • A short hike brings you to natural river beaches and calmer swimming areas, ideal for a day trip.

A short stroll from the village centre, the Vallon Gai gorge is perfect for a peaceful nature walk that follows a shaded riverbed. It’s a local favourite walk — and a refreshing spot in summer:

  • Follow the footpath from below the Cassole bridge into this picturesque corridor.

  • Along the way, you’ll find pools, small cascades, and shallow swim-friendly basins, great for a refreshing dip or a picnic by the water.

💡 This is a lovely option for families and guests wanting a natural riverside adventure close to town.
